Have you ever noticed the amount of once healthy celebrities are now incredibly skinny? Not saying anything is wrong with being skinny. But to describe, boney and deadly is far from just being regularly skinny. Not only celebrities are the victims, sometimes even children. In this article, I will be discussing a couple of the toxic and unhealthy beauty trends that are in modern times.
Number one, we have made tapeworm pills, yes, tapeworm pills. According to Healthline which is an agency dedicated to telling about the dangers in diets and the origin, this trend began in 1873. Ever since, it has been in and out of trend. Though most have not heard of toxic dieting, the reason is because of how long ago this trend began.
Other beauty trends are botox, fillings, and even starvation. Botox, and fillings are more modern but still even deadly. There was a video on Tiktok of a woman in a hospital after receiving botox in the wrong area. That caused her whole body to be paralyzed. It even causes face stiffness, making it hard to express with your face. Fillings could improperly be put into anywhere and possibly even bust. Starvation has been around for the longest amount of time, but it could cause death and weakness. Most trends appeal to the younger audience but could include all audiences. Prediction could show a future of these trends getting worse.
Now how do toxic beauty trends tie into school?
This topic ties into schools because of how younger audiences have more access to beauty trends on social media and are even adapting to them. Here’s an example from my school: some freshman, fresh out of middle school, dress very adult like. Mainly the females, but yes! Both boys and girls do it but mainly the females. In my opinion, it’s not appropriate for 14 and 15 year olds for wear certain revealing clothes.
In closing, beauty trends are taking a toll on the younger generation. Both girls and boys are losing confidence due to the high expectations of these trends. It’s terrible that confidence used to be higher in previous times. It’s unfortunate that the trends are getting this deep and are affecting the confidence, socialization, and in some cases well being of those who practice these trends.
