Garrett Morgan

Garrett Morgan was an African American inventor, businessman, and a community leader. He created the three-way traffic light in 1923. But earlier created the gas mask in 1914.Garret was born in Paris, Kentucky, March 4th,1877. He was the son of formerly enslaved parents and only had limited schooling. He was also the 7th child out if 11 children. He left home early as a teen to Cincinnati and then Cleaveland. He worked as a handyman for a wealthy landowner and as a repairman which led him to inventions like the gas mask. His mechanical skills led him to open his own sewing machine repair shop in 1907.
